Let me try to explain the police car pulling me over while test driving the new Chevy Volt.
First, I wasn’t driving. I had picked up two friends who are members of the Porsche Club of America. I wanted their opinion.
Let’s not tell the good folks at GM who lent me the car but they did “check it out!” Their reaction:
I want one of these!
NO, they are not going to give up their Porsches. But they both like the Chevy Volt enough that they would want one for a fun daily driver.
And besides being fun, even with these guys being anything but green in their driving behavior, we got close to 50 miles per gallon!
But back to our law enforcement encounter. After safely but aggressively checking out what a Volt can do on San Francisco Bay Area backroads we were coming back into my small and very quiet town.
Oh no, I am being pulled over!
The police officer did not look happy.
Do you know how fast you were driving?
We all look at ourselves like the innocents we were. I volunteered 35 miles per hour.
No sir, you were doing 55!
We then in unison said, “No way!” And that is the only thing I can say is a real challenge driving the wonderful and exciting Chevy Volt. Unless you stay glued to watching the speedometer there is no way of knowing how fast you are driving. This car is that smooth and QUIET!
The good news is that cops also like cool cars. Can’t guarantee this will be the case for you but our very understanding law enforcement professional let us off with a warning to watch the speedometer more closely.
